Winter joy

Miles and miles of snowcovered slopes, a hotel offering the warmth of home. Winter in the mountains is a time when you feel truly alive.
Morning is the time to hurry with preparations for a day's skiing, for even if the snow has not fallen from the heavens, the snowmaking machines guarantee crisp white slopes.
In the winter sky, illuminated brightly by stars, which seem like candles blowing gently in the cool breeze, there is a feel of infinity about all. Each and every season, notwithstanding the present phenomenon of climatic changes, has its own distinctive virtue. The mood of winter in the mountains is to make one feel alive like never before. Maybe it’s a result of the cold, or maybe it’s because of the snow, and the struggle of nature to defend itself from the harsh elements. Whatever it is, winter has something special about it. The short days are an encouragement to enjoy all with an intense expression of energy. Morning is the time to hurry with preparations for a day’s skiing, for even if the snow has not fallen from the heavens the snowmaking machines guarantee crisp white slopes; in the afternoon, the hotel is a warm retreat and an exuberance of hospitality. It is not just the glowing logs in the lounge fireplace which warm the cockles of our heart, more so it is the energy and consideration of the persons who work at La Perla which give an essential vitality to one and all. Everything is smooth and efficient, be it the bar, the restaurant, the bedrooms, the sauna, which are the object of concern. Each new season brings a renewed energy and this in itself is a driving force for all at La Perla. Head Chef Nicola sets about preparing the delicious delicacies for Stüa de Michil, the Stube, and the Bistro. Mathias is busy programming the opening hours for après ski at Murin (and of course keeping in mind there is a late opening every second Monday throughout the season). Ernesto is already thinking of the best arrangements for the family aperitif on Christmas Eve. Our trusted friend Rossano is ready for action so as to respond to the ski hire and ski preparation needs of our guests. And then there is so much to look forward to – the live music on Wednesday evenings at our Ladinia mountain inn, it just across the way, the hundreds of kilometres of slopes to get out and enjoy skiing on. I just love the swoosh of the skis on the snow as one and all glide down the slopes. And I love too the sight of the tall proud trees which seem to cling to each other as if determined to resist the cold cut of the winter chill. And talking of winter chill I even look forward to the wintry faces of skiers as they blow out their cheeks and cold air emanates, just as if humans were newly discovered wind machines. Yes, these to me are all signs of a truly authentic winter wonderland time. Even after the festive fun of Christmas and New Year, winter still has time to enchant you before the early spring makes its appearance. Winter is a joyful season at La Perla – full of cheer and good intent. In 2018 Easter is the beginning of April and we will keep open until Easter Monday. And then, all that remains is to look forward to the summer season, but we will tell that tale on another occasion!
P.S. For our guests who desire a little warmer temperature after sampling the joys of winter, we remind you that down in Tuscany we have our Posta Marcucci hotel. Located in Bagno Vignoni, we are lucky to boast as part of the hotel pools with warm water which rises from the earth at a temperature of almost 49° C. A pleasant alternative, is it not?
