Mountains, projection of an inner world
There are artists, like our beloved Kirchner, who felt the demand to depict landscapes and people for their excess of emotions, the malaise of life, and extreme sensitivity. Kirchner loved the mountains and painted them as a projection of his inner world rather than as an idyllic escape. Critics defined this pulsion ‘expressionism’. To us mere mortals, it simply looks like vital energy, allowing us to feel part and parcel of nature. Nature all round. Loving the mountains, now more than ever, is a necessity far removed from a simple individual and selfish need aiming to exploit the land, overbuilding it for pure greed and economic turnover.
