The order of hospitality
Hospitality needs a certain order. It all depends on the situation, obviously. In a hotel like ours, which is surely not comparable to the playground of the Wight 1970 island, for example – although we would have wanted to be there to hear Miles Davis play with Gary Bartz at the sax, Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea on the keyboard, Dave Holland at the bass, Jack DeJohnette at the drums and Airto Moreira at the percussion: order has a precise shape. Order equals liturgy: everything orderly, just like the notes of the divine Miles, has the possibility of being received, accepted, relished. We work, day in, day out, to ensure that the subtle order of things is revealed in a jam session of pure delight.
