Every day a new story

A witch or a princess on skis?

The Italian term ’befana’ which is used to denote the 6th January is a corruption of the word Epiphany, which in Greek means an apparition and has always been associated with the presence of a certain divinity. We here in the valley like to imagine a figure appearing on the mountain crest in company of the Wise Men and rather than descending on a witch’s broom, heads towards the valley on an elegant pair of skis and leaves behind traces of immaculate curves on the virgin snow, a design as if choregraphed by a ski champion and an ice-skating queen. Do not think either that this will be the last day of celebrations for in truth the winter season is only just beginning and there are many weeks of fun ahead. Count on my word!
