Composure and elegance
Composure is a word rarely applied to buildings but in this photo it is the word which comes to mind, a celebration of simple elegance. It is not that result which has been sought at all costs, an artificial assemblage designed to stun, to show off, to sell. It is more a composure which one sees in the slow rhythms all around – the old wall with its marvellous signature, the roof supporting a ton of snow, the small window offering a view of the mountain, and just to celebrate the scene the white brick trimmings on the side, each notch seeming to tell a story from down the years. And then there are the century old trees, the chair-lift in the background dancing gaily as the wood behind provides the perfect background. When the mountain is demure and embracing it is a splendid thing indeed.
