La Perla, a journey.

So, how was it? We have to go back one or two moments in time to discover. It all started in 1957 as I arrived in Corvara to be a kitchen hand and then met my husband Ernesto: I married him in 1959 without a moment's doubt.

“This journey has been wonderful.”

He lived with his parents and two aunts in a small house. They used to rent rooms to the occasional guest at the time. After the wedding, I joined the team and with a lot of hard work and engagement this simple room letting turned into a homely guesthouse, then a hotel. It was not always easy, especially in 1975, when our hotel burned to the ground. What faced us were ruins and, of course, a mountain of debt. The insurance company didn't want to pay out and we had no idea of how to go on. My motto was 'Never give up' but I do admit that at times I was very close to reaching my limits. In the end, Ernesto and I chose to fight and start everything from scratch. LA PERLA rose from its ashes with our spirit of improvisation, love of work, diligence and sleepless nights. Spurred on by the entrepreneurial spirit of Ernesto, creativity from little old me and the immeasurable contribution of our colleagues, the LA PERLA name began to spread far and wide.
We also had many blessings in disguise and we often were very happy indeed. Our three children, Michil, Mathias and Maximilian gave me great joy. Despite occasional instances of motherly concern, they have always made me proud. They are amazing children, who carry on Ernesto's and my life's work with respect, love and hard work. They also brought three amazing daughter-in-laws and five great grandchildren into my life. I am just so happy that God smiles upon my life and I thank him every day for this.
So, how was it? Simply splendid and I hope that there will be plenty more days of joy to come.
